Beer Analysis Applications Notebook: Solutions for the Complete Brewing Process

Beer Analysis Applications Notebook: Solutions for the Complete Brewing Process

22 Mar 2016

Beer is the most widely consumed alcoholic beverage in the world and the third most popular drink after water and tea. Beer is typically brewed from four basic ingredients: water, a starch source (e.g., malted barley) brewer’s yeast, and a flavoring agent such as hops. Many varieties of beer result from differences in these ingredients, the additives used, and the brewing process. Once a manufacturer has developed a popular product they need to ensure that they can reproduce it consistently, and in sufficient quantity, in compliance with any local & national regulations. It also needs to remain stable over the shelf-life of the beer. This application notebook presents a range of methods for reducing analysis time without compromising resolution, monitoring processes to determine flavor and stability and characterizing beer using metabolomics approaches.

Gas ChromatographyGas chromatography (GC) is an analytical technique used to separate and quantitate mixtures of small and volatile compounds. Gas chromatographs or GC systems include components such as GC columns, detectors, pumps and autosamplers. Choose from packed or capillary GC columns, flame ionization (FID), photoionization (PID) electron capture detectors and selective or non-selective detectors. Both techniques are liquid chromatographic methods but differ by operating pressures (HPLC < 6000 psi < UHPLC ). Components of HPLC and UHPLC systems include columns, detectors, pumps, autosamplers and column heaters. Explore a range of UHPLC and HPLC columns for your specific sample needs including reverse phase, normal phase, ion exchange, HILIC, ion exclusion and size exclusion columns. For more specialized HPLC, explore FPLC, countercurrent LC and simulated moving bed systems.
