Synbiosis, a long-established, expert manufacturer of automated microbiological systems, has introduced its new ProDilute gravimetric diluter.

The system, complete with automated volume adjustment diluting is suitable for busy microbiology laboratories that want rapid, accurate and repeatable sample dilutions.

The ProDilute features automatic dilution of diluent based on the weight of the sample, guaranteeing precision, as well as protecting microbiologists from repetitive strain injury issues associated with repeatedly pipetting large numbers of dilutions.

Using the ProDilute, which is compatible with the Synbiosis ProBlend sample blending system, dilutions (1 to 1/100) of blended food and environmental samples can be processed at speed. The dilutions are dispensed using space saving ‘Plug and Play’ flexible pumps, which can be added as and when the laboratory is busy, allowing up to four different diluents to be dispensed.

With ProDilute, contamination issues are reduced through the easy-to-use dispensing nozzles and the ‘finger stop’ system. The diluter also has a detachable bag holder and is built from stainless steel, making cleaning quick and simple.

Useful system features include high-throughput, automation, robotic arms, automated liquid handling and associated database systems. Accessories in sample management include barcode scanners, heat sealers and tubes.Environmental Monitoring and TestingEnvironmental monitoring and testing uses handheld portable analyzers, kits, spectrometers or chromatography systems for air, water, soil, food and other sample testing. Useful features of analyzers such as BOD and COD include portability, easy calibration, automation and sensitivity.  Environmental test kits for pH, water, moisture, etc, should be accurate, sensitive, reliable, fast and easy to use.Robotic InstrumentsRobotic instruments can be used for high-throughput automation of many lab processes. Such processes use instruments for assays like cell based assays and ELISA, for sample preparation like shakers, centrifuges and incubators, and for analysis such as sequencing and western blot analyzers. Useful features of robotic instruments include speed, reproducibility, barcode readers, software and automation.Food and Beverage AnalyzersFood and Beverage Analyzers are commonly used to provide information about the chemical composition, structure and physical properties of food materials.Food and Beverage ProcessingFood and Beverage Processing involves the preparation of food products for further analysis. Typical instrumentation includes blanchers, color sorters, cookers, grinders, and refrigeration. These are used to replicate the processes commonly used in the commercial preparation of food and beverages.Homogenizers and BlendersHomogenizers and blenders are used to homogenize various types of material, including tissue, cells, plants, food, soil, biological and chemical samples for subsequent analysis. Lab equipment for sample homogenization includes handheld and benchtop homogenizers, bead mill, ultrasonic and multiple sample homogenizers, high shear homogenizers and blenders. Homogenizer bead and probe multipacks are available to avoid cross contamination of samples, as well as cooling systems for homogenizing temperature-sensitive samples. Homogenizers are often used in the first step of extraction of DNA, RNA and proteins from tissue and cell samples. Microorganisms are a useful research tool as genetic vectors and, in immunology, for antibiotic susceptibility testing, cellular biology and genetics. Microorganisms commonly grow readily in incubators with microbial culture media; this can contain chromogenic supplements to differentiate between cell lines. Estimate your culture’s density of microorganisms with colony counters, or screen and select colonies for desirable clones with automated colony pickers. Additionally, equipment is available to monitor environments for the presence of microbes and identify with microbial identification instruments.
