Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, is featuring technology and instrumentation for a range of food safety testing applications along with a customer seminar at the Seventh Annual International Symposium on Recent Advances in Food Analysis (RAFA), Clarion Congress Hotel, Nov. 3-6, Prague, Booth 6.

“The demand for fast and accurate food safety analysis technologies is on the rise, and we recognize the need for comprehensive workflow solutions,” said Khalil Divan, senior director of marketing, food and beverage at Thermo Fisher. “Our technology innovations, including our breakthrough Thermo Scientific Q Exactive GC Orbitrap GC-MS, deliver outstanding sensitivity and high-resolution accurate mass capabilities for a new level of performance for food safety testing.”

RAFA Highlights:

Making its RAFA debut, the new Q Exactive GC Orbitrap GC-MS/MS combines high-resolution gas chromatography (GC) and high-resolution/accurate-mass (HR/AM) Orbitrap mass spectrometry and is suited for comprehensive sample characterization and targeted and non-targeted analysis of contaminants and residues such as pesticides.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Thermo Scientific DFS Magnetic Sector GC-HRMS is the gold-standard for high-performance dioxin and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) routine analysis and is designed to deliver quantitative results at low trace levels due to its exceptional sensitivity.

On Nov. 5 (13:30-14:30), Thermo Fisher will present a seminar on High-Resolution Accurate Mass: Food for Thought!, featuring presentations by Professor Jana Hajslova, University of Chemistry and Technology (UCT), Prague; and Dr. Marc Tienstra, RIKILT, Netherlands and their use of the Q Exactive GC Orbitrap GC-MS/MS in food safety applications.

“I will present the use of the Q Exactive GC in the profiling of extracts of whisky samples,” said Professor Hajslova. “I will address the importance of parameters such as high-resolving power, excellent mass accuracy, wide linear dynamic range and automated deconvolution of HRAM spectra for the analysis of chemical components present at high and low concentrations.”

“I will discuss the selectivity, screening, quantification and identification capabilities of Orbitrap technology in the targeted and non-targeted analysis of pesticide residues in food and feed,” said Dr. Tienstra. “This will include the latest results from a proof-of–concept study using the Q Exactive GC for the analysis of GC amenable pesticides and the results from a similar study using LC-Q Exactive operated in full scan mode for the LC-amenable pesticides.”

Other food safety testing technologies featured include the Thermo Scientific TRACE 1300 Series GC, Delta V Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer; TSQ 8000 Evo GC-MS/MS Pesticide Analyzer; Vanquish UHPLC System; Ion Chromatography ICS-5000+; Q Exactive Focus Hybrid Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer; TSQ Endura Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer; TSQ Quantiva Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer; and Dionex ASE 350 Accelerated Solvent Extractor.
