Extraction of Permethrin Pesticides from Spinach Using QuEChERS Methodology with Automated Shaking

27 Nov 2015

QuEChERS was introduced in 2003 for simplified sample preparation in the analysis of pesticides in fruits and vegetables. In this article, permethrin was extracted from spinach using the Supel™ QuE 50 mL centrifuge tubes and following the QuEChERS procedure. Analysis was performed on capillary GC column SLB®-5ms with MS detection.

Products to assist sample preparation include filtration equipment, evaporators, membranes and sieves.Robotic InstrumentsRobotic instruments can be used for high-throughput automation of many lab processes. Such processes use instruments for assays like cell based assays and ELISA, for sample preparation like shakers, centrifuges and incubators, and for analysis such as sequencing and western blot analyzers. Useful features of robotic instruments include speed, reproducibility, barcode readers, software and automation.Food and Beverage AnalyzersFood and Beverage Analyzers are commonly used to provide information about the chemical composition, structure and physical properties of food materials.Food and Beverage ProcessingFood and Beverage Processing involves the preparation of food products for further analysis. Typical instrumentation includes blanchers, color sorters, cookers, grinders, and refrigeration. These are used to replicate the processes commonly used in the commercial preparation of food and beverages.QuEChERSThe QuEChERS (Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged, and Safe) method is a streamlined approach that is used to extract multi-residue target compounds from food samples. It is most commonly used by analytical chemists studying pesticide residues in food.AutomationAutomation in laboratories and manufacturing processes enhances efficiency, precision, and scalability by reducing the need for manual intervention. It plays a critical role in improving productivity, minimizing human error, and accelerating workflows in fields like diagnostics, drug development, and industrial testing. Automation technologies include robotic systems, automated liquid handlers, and process control systems that streamline complex tasks and ensure consistent, reproducible results.
