Rapid and Accurate LC-MS/MS Analysis of Nicotine and Related Compounds in Urine Using Raptor™ Biphenyl LC Columns and MS-Friendly Mobile Phases
18 May 2017A rapid, accurate, and reproducible method was developed for high-throughput testing of nicotine, cotinine, trans-3'-hydroxycotinine, nornicotine, norcotinine, and anabasine in urine. Data show that a fast and highly efficient analysis of these basic compounds can be achieved with the Raptor™ Biphenyl column using standard low-pH, reversed-phase LC-MS mobile phases that are compatible with a variety of LC-MS instrumentation.

LC-MSLC-MS (liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry) systems and equipment are used for separation and quantitative analysis of complex mixtures, combining liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. Quantify proteins, contaminants, pesticides or screen for drug metabolites with a high level of sensitivity. LC-MS systems and equipment include reverse phase, normal phase and specialized columns integrated with various MS detectors such as time-of-flight (TOF), quadrupole, orbitrap or ion trap mass analyzers. LC-MS/MS instruments equipped with a qTOF or triple quadrupole analyzer give greater sensitivity and resolving power to your analysis. This parallelization reduces the cost per experiment and increases reproducibility and output volume of data.UrineThe analysis of urine is important in medicinal, anti-doping, forensic and life sciences applications. The ability to evaluate what someone has ingested through their urine enables fast detection and diagnosis of certain illnesses.
