Mesenchymal stem cell cultivation in single-use stirred tank bioreactors
18 Jul 2023Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are a relatively rare cell population, and large quantities of cells are typically required for clinical applications. This creates the need for large-scale platforms to efficiently expand MSCs. MSCs have gained significant attention because of their therapeutic potential for many difficult-to-treat diseases. In this application note, PromoCell describes an easy-to-understand protocol for the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)-compliant large-scale production of MSCs in a single-use bioreactor. The note also includes results regarding attachment and cell expansion, and results of the metabolite analysis.

Biological materials used include cells, enzymes and organisms. Usually bioprocessing requires a batch or continuous bioreactor such as a fermentor or cell culture system. The advantages of using a reactor include high productivity, easy configuration, adjustable values and automation.Stem Cell ResearchStem cells have the ability to produce identical daughter cells as well as progeny, which commit and differentiate. Stem cell research has exciting prospects of biomedical applications in cellular disease modeling, pharmaceutical screening, and regenerative medicine. Mesenchymal Stem Cells
