Liposome Sample Preparation for Characterizing Thermotropic Phase Transitions using Differential Scanning Calorimetry

12 Sept 2016

This application note details liposome sample preparation for use in Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). DSC is a fundamental experimental technique can be used to characterize thermotropic phase transitions in lipid bilayer membranes and can obtain both transition temperatures and enthalpies. Samples can be composed of pure lipids or mixtures, which allows DSC to be used to monitor the effects of adding components to the membrane.

Drug delivery is often approached via the biopharmaceutical or small molecule drug's formulation, but it may also involve medical devices or drug-device combination products. Considerations include instrumentation, software and services. LipidsLipids are a diverse group of organic compounds that are insoluble in water, including fats, oils, and hormones. They are critical for cellular structure and energy storage.
