FT-NIR Analyzer for Oils, Fats & Oleochemicals Applications: Pre-calibrated for %Trans Fat and Iodine value (IV) AOCS Standard Procedure

26 Apr 2017

This application note demonstrates the capability of the MB3600-CH10 Analyzer to assess the degree of hydrogenation of oils, fats and oleochemicals by determining the iodine value (IV) and type of unsaturation (cis or %Trans fat). It describes a method of determining %Trans at the same time as IV using disposable vials, detailing set-up, calibration and validation. This application note is the second part in the ‘FT-NIR Analyzer for Oils, Fats & Oleochemicals Applications’ series.

Infrared / IR SpectroscopyInfrared (IR) spectroscopy measures the interaction of infrared light with a sample, including transmission, reflectance & absorbance, facilitating the identification of analytes. Equipment used for quantitative analysis includes Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometers, infrared cameras, FTIR gas analyzers, as well as attenuated total reflectance (ATR) accessories and pellet or film presses.
