Evaluation of Light-Shielding Effect of Milk Cartons Using a UV-VIS-NIR Spectrophotometer

30 Apr 2014

This application note examines the transmission characteristics of paper-based milk cartons using the UV-3600 ultraviolet visible-near-infrared spectrophotometer. The results of measurements conducted on the 3 types of milk cartons indicated differences in transmittance depending on the carton sample. Further, differences in transmittance were also found within each of the respective samples, depending on the measurement site.

UV-Visible SpectroscopyUltraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometers are used to measure the interaction of UV and visible light with a sample, including transmission, reflectance & absorbance. The two major instrument classes are single-beam or double-beam spectrophotometers. More specialized equipment includes colorimeters, spectroradiometers and refractometers. Portable and microvolume spectrophotometers are also available. For the modular spectroscopy lab, explore a range of light sources for combination with a spectrograph/spectrometer and optics.
