The 856 Conductivity Module is the new conductivity meter from Metrohm. It measures with state-of-the-art conductivity measuring cells – five-ring measuring cells. They achieve high linearity without platinization of the cell and are maintenance-free. The five-ring cells also yield accurate measurement data irrespective of the immersion depth. Combustion Ion Chromatography – automated determination of halogens and sulfur in solid and liquid samples

Metrohm presents Combustion IC (CIC), a fully automated system for the simultaneous determination of halogens and sulfur in widely differing matrices. With CIC, unlike with alternative methods the concentrations of the different halogens can each be shown separately. Moreover, digestion by pyrolysis is superior to offline digestion methods with regard to sample throughput and precision and correctness of results. CIC is ideal for routine analysis in a variety of fields, as it neither prior knowledge about the sample matrix nor complicated method development are required. CIC is recommended for quality control of raw materials, intermediates and finished products, and is also suitable for straightforward monitoring of compliance with the relevant laws and standards in the environmental field (e.g. DIN EN 228, IEC 60502-1, RoHS, WEEE, ...). Thus, CIC enables determination of halogens and sulfur in all kinds of fuels, lubricants, additives and other petroleum products, as well as in polymers, flame retardants, textiles, special chemicals, catalysts and all kinds of waste. The new CIC system consists of a Combustion Module from Analytik Jena and an absorption and IC part from Metrohm. Sample digestion is controlled automatically by a flame sensor. The flame sensor measures the light from the pyrolysis oven and controls the feed rate of the sample boat into the oven in proportion to the intensity of the light emitted during combustion. Thus, duration of the combustion is optimized so that combustion of the sample is always complete (soot prevention), while time consuming delays of throughput are avoided. Thanks to the automated control of the sample digestion, method development for combustion is no longer needed; both different matrices and different sample quantities can be treated using the same, universal «method». The complete system, including sample delivery, sample digestion and analysis, is controlled by MagIC Net™, the proven software for ion chromatography.

This modular high current potentiostat/ galvanostat, with a compliance voltage of 30 V and a bandwidth of over 1 MHz, combined with our FRA2 module, is specially designed for electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The PGSTAT302N is the succesor of the popular PGSTAT30. The maximum current is 2 A, the current range can be extended to 20 A with the BOOSTER20A, the current resolution is 30 fA at a current range of 10 nA. With a special modification, the PGSTAT302N also offers the possibility to perform Dynamic iR compensation.

Oxidation stability: 893 Professional Biodiesel Rancimat with new StabNet software launched The Biodiesel Rancimat has become the preferred instrument for determining the oxidation stability of biodiesel and biodiesel blends according to EN 14112 and EN 15751. Metrohm now launches a new generation of this widely popular instrument including the completely new StabNet software. One of the most important new features of the 893 Professional Biodiesel Rancimat is that determinations can now be started independently at the touch of a button directly at each of the instrument’s 8 measuring positions. The user in the lab does no longer have to go to his lap- or benchtop to do so. Moreover, the new Rancimat generation comes with a display at the front-top side of the instrument communicating key information (e.g., temperature, gas flow, conductivity) on the status of the determination on each of instrument’s 8 measuring positions. On the other hand, the new StabNet software contributes very much to the improved usability of the new Rancimat generation. Thus, the user interface is well structured enabling intuitive use; a client-server version with advanced user administration for improved data security is available. MARGA – Monitor for Aerosols and Gases in ambient Air

MARGA (Monitor for AeRosols and Gases in ambient Air) has been developed by Metrohm Applikon in cooperation with the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands. The instrument offers a new approach in which gases and aerosols sampled from the same air mass are separated from each other by selectively dissolving them in water. The resulting solutions are then analysed using ion chromatography with conductivity detection. Separating the two fractions from each other, allows the detection of important precursor gases and ionic species found in the aerosols. Gases HCl, HNO3, HNO2, SO2, NH3 Aerosols Cl–, NO3–, SO42–, NH4+, Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+ MARGA – the concept Air to be analysed enters into a Sample Box via an appropriate inlet, typically with a cut-off of PM10 or PM2.5 (particle sizes less than 10 μm or 2.5 μm). The airflow is maintained at a constant 1 m3hr–1 by a mass flow controlled air pump. In the Sample Box water-soluble gases are quantitatively absorbed in a dilute (10 mgL–1) solution of hydrogen peroxide by using a wet rotating denuder (WRD). Aerosols pass through the WRD and are subsequently collected in a steam jet aerosol collector (SJAC). The liquid samples from the WRD and SJAC are continuously collected during one hour by syringe pumps. After degassing and mixing with an internal standard (lithium bromide), the samples are analysed by two ion chromatographs for determination of anions and cations, respectively. The entire instrument is controlled by a single software that runs on an integrated industrial PC.
