VoltIC Pro Provides a Single, Powerful System for Trace Ion Analysis

Product news

VoltIC pro is a two-in-one system that integrates ion chromatography and voltammetry by sharing the same autosampler and software. It brings together the particular strengths of both techniques in a single, fully automated system – for virtually unlimited possibilities in trace ion analysis.

The user benefits of the fully automated VoltIC pro system are evident. Samples need to be prepared just once for comprehensive analysis by both techniques, i.e., ion chromatography and voltammetry. This saves considerable amounts of time. Moreover, results for all parameters are presented in a single database for convenient handling and evaluation.

The autosampler provides professional liquid handling for both units delivering the sample first to the ion chromatograph and immediately afterwards to the VA stand for subsequent, simultaneous analysis.
A practical example for the immediate benefits of the system is comprehensive water analysis, where VoltIC pro enables the simultaneous determination of transition metals, while ion chromatography takes care of the standard anions and cations of interest.

ElectrophoresisElectrophoresis equipment is used to separate mixtures of protein, DNA or RNA, based on their electric charge, size and other physical characteristics, by passing them through a medium such as a polyacrylamide gel, an agarose gel or a capillary tube. Electrophoresis equipment includes horizontal and vertical gel electrophoresis chambers, isoelectric focusing systems, 2D electrophoresis and capillary electrophoresis instruments. Precast gels with a gradient can be used or gels can be hand cast. Samples are run alongside ladders or markers to identify the approximate size of a molecule. Separated proteins and nucleic acids in the gel can be stained or probed with fluorescent markers and then imaged and detected using gel documentation instruments, transilluminators, densitometers and scanners. Equipment includes ion exchange columns, ion exclusion columns, ion chromatography systems, pumps, and detectors. Useful system features include high-throughput, automation, robotic arms, automated liquid handling and associated database systems. Accessories in sample management include barcode scanners, heat sealers and tubes.VoltammetryVoltammetry is a sensitive analytical technique for elemental detection. In a voltammeter the current is measured in the system whilst the voltage is varied. Usually 3 metal electrodes are required including the reference, auxiliary and working electrodes. In polarography, a subclass of voltammetry, the working electrode used is a dropping mercury electrode (DME). The 2 main types of voltammetry are cyclic and linear sweep voltammetry.Automated Liquid HandlingAutomated liquid handling equipment is used to mix, dilute and dispense allotted volumes of liquid into microplates and other vessels automatically. The robotic, liquid handling arms can dispense from single channel to 3456 multichannel as well as operate nanoliter dispensing, enabling high throughput of samples.
