Merck Millipore, the Life Science division of Merck KGaA announces the availability of its Lab Solutions Virtual Conference for on-demand viewing.

The conference theme, “Food Safety Analysis,” brought industry experts from around the world on November 19 and 20 to discuss different aspects of this increasingly important topic, including food and beverage microbiological testing, environmental monitoring and regulation, and the impact of using high-quality materials in analytical testing. Now visitors who were unable to attend the virtual conference last month may visit the site at their leisure.

The Lab Solutions Virtual Conference includes three webinars:

> “ISO® Standardization in Food Microbiology and Quality of Media” featuring guest speaker Barbara Gerten, R&D Manager, Head of Raw Materials and Regulations, Merck Millipore BioMonitoring R&D - Business Field.

> “The Importance of Water Quality in Food Analyses” presented by Dr. Estelle Riché, Sr. Scientist, Applications and Training, Merck Millipore Lab Water Business Field.

> “Monolith Chromolith® Columns – An Ideal Tool for the Analysis of Food Samples with Complex ‘Dirty’ Matrices” featuring guest speaker Dr. Egidijus Machtejevas, Product Management Analytical Chromatography, Merck Millipore Lab Essentials Business Field.

In addition, visitors are free to visit other areas of the site, including the Lab Solutions Exhibit Hall, where they will find four booths related to the conference’s “Food Safety Analysis” theme (Chromatography, Food & Beverage Microbiological Testing, Environmental Monitoring, and Regulated Market), as well as the Sponsor Hall, featuring publishers and industry experts from some of the leading life and science publications: Advantage Business Media, Lab Manager, The Scientist, LCGC and SelectSciencecom

The Resource Library also remains available for visitors who would like to review and download new and exciting data, abstracts and videos, as well as scientific articles.

Please visit the Lab Solutions Virtual Conference 2013 website today to register for on-demand viewing.

Gas ChromatographyGas chromatography (GC) is an analytical technique used to separate and quantitate mixtures of small and volatile compounds. Gas chromatographs or GC systems include components such as GC columns, detectors, pumps and autosamplers. Choose from packed or capillary GC columns, flame ionization (FID), photoionization (PID) electron capture detectors and selective or non-selective detectors. Microorganisms are a useful research tool as genetic vectors and, in immunology, for antibiotic susceptibility testing, cellular biology and genetics. Microorganisms commonly grow readily in incubators with microbial culture media; this can contain chromogenic supplements to differentiate between cell lines. Estimate your culture’s density of microorganisms with colony counters, or screen and select colonies for desirable clones with automated colony pickers. Additionally, equipment is available to monitor environments for the presence of microbes and identify with microbial identification instruments. Typical instrumentation includes blanchers, color sorters, cookers, grinders, and refrigeration. These are used to replicate the processes commonly used in the commercial preparation of food and beverages.Food SafetyFood safety describes the prevention of food-borne illnesses. Contamination with a variety of pathogens can be prevented with adequate temperature control, hygiene and labeling. Food samples can be tested using GC/MS, HPLC, SPE, and qPCR to ensure their adherence to regulations.
