As part of a continuous customer-centric process to ensure that service offerings are delivering on the needs of a global customer base, LGC has launched an all-inclusive laboratory service package for the plant breeding and research communities.

The simple, all-inclusive DNA extraction and KASP genotyping service offering includes a plant kit, KASP Genotyping assay design, DNA extraction and KASP™ genotyping service, and is delivered from their global state-of-the-art laboratories.

Utilizing their recently-launched plant sampling kit, to ensure the highest quality data, the service has a simple to understand pricing structure that also includes full support from LGC’s own project managers and scientific support team.

Joris Parmentier, Global Product Manager, Genomics, LGC, “LGC’s vision is ‘science for a safer world’ and we are conscious of the challenges our customers in the plant research and applied markets are facing. Global food security issues like diseases, yield limitations and environmental resistance drive a need to find and develop desirable traits faster. With this new all inclusive service we are making a big leap to help our customers to do more, faster. This service enables genotyping of more samples on more markers helping our customers to find and develop new traits faster and bring crops to the market more quickly. Additionally the service does not require customers to have a high-throughput laboratory of their own and instead allows them to take full advantage of our expertise and support.”

Since 2002, LGC has delivered well over a billion bespoke genotyping data points, using KASP and SNPLineTM technology, enabling plant breeders to identify and select drought- and disease-tolerant crop varieties, tailored to their individual environments. Furthermore, as a result of designing more than 17,000 KASP assays for researchers and plant breeders, spanning 21 countries, LGC has generated and validated 12 KASP marker panels.

Genome AnalysisGenomics, the study of genomes, includes functional genomics, evolutionary genomics and comparative genomics. There are many genomic technologies such as DNA sequencing of whole genomes, computational biology and bioinformatics. DNA and nucleic acids must be isolated and concentrated from cells for analysis with kits, automated analyzers and software. Other useful technologies for studying genomics include PCR, microarrays and electrophoresis.DNA / RNA Extraction and PurificationPurified DNA and RNA are required for numerous downstream molecular biology applications. Consequently, the importance of high-quality DNA/RNA extraction and purification equipment cannot be underestimated. Many purification kits are available and are typically optimized for nucleic acid type and source, including plasmid DNA, genomic DNA, mRNA, RNA and viral nucleic acid purification kits. Automated extraction and purification of nucleic acids can be implemented with magnetic bead separator instruments or high-throughput purification workstations. Sequencing systems operate via varying technologies depending on the manufacturer, including sequencing by synthesis, ligation, pyrosequencing, ion semiconductor and single-molecule real-time sequencing. For NGS, library preparation is paramount to successful sequencing. In this section, explore a range of library preparation kits, from targeted, amplicon-based or hybridization-based kits including epigenomic, transcriptomic and genomic workflows to fragmentation kits.
