Training and SOPs for using a biosafety cabinet

In this webinar, biosafety experts Dr. Julianne Baron and Dr. Lora Grainger will explain the imperativeness of biosafety cabinet (BSC) training in general and then move to discuss specific topics that may be key elements of such training. These topics will include the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), reminders about best methods for working in a BSC, a discussion of surface decontamination and spill remediation, and how to address waste from a BSC.

Key learning objectives:

  • Explain why individuals should be trained to use BSCs properly
  • Identify what BSC use procedures should have SOPs written for them and how to effectively write an SOP
  • Describe 10 tips for working safely in a BSC
  • Explain how and when to surface decontaminate a BSC including what to do if materials are spilled within the BSC during work
  • Detail the safe containment and disposal of wastes generated during work within a BSC
