TSA Reduces Exposure Time in an Imaging Assay for PKCa

11 Jul 2013

Protein kinase C alpha (PKCa) is associated with a wide variety of cellular processes including proliferation, adhesion and motility. Over expression of PKCa appears to be associated with certain forms of cancer, and it has been identified as a biomarker for poor prognosis in breast cancer. Upon activation with phorbol esters, PKCa translocates from the cytosol to the plasma membrane. For this reason, it is best studied with a high content analysis method that provides quantitative data on subcellular localization. In this application note read about Tyramide Signal Amplification™ (TSA), a widely referenced technology for providing greatly enhanced sensitivity in an extensive range of assays including immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence (IF).

This can reveal information on cell health (apoptosis, cytotoxicity, viability and proliferation assays), cell metabolism, cell migration and cell signaling mechanisms. Find the best cell-based assay products, kits and equipment with our peer reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receiving pricing direct from manufacturers.BiomarkersBiomarkers are biological markers which can be measured and evaluated to indicate a biological state. The use of biomarkers in research and diagnosis can indicate a normal or disease state or drug response of cells / tissues. Biomarkers include genetic markers, cell surface markers such as antigens, antibodies or receptors and secreted molecules such as cytokines. An assay system is required for identification of biomarkers. :Cancer ResearchAlthough cancer is often referred to as a single condition, it actually consists of more than 100 different diseases. Microscopy, mass spectrometry, high throughput sequencing and flow cytometry are some of the most common techniques employed in cancer research labs.Protein KinaseBiomarker DiscoveryClinical biomarkers refer to substances related to known medical conditions that can be accurately measured in vitro. Biomarkers can be used to diagnose presence of a disease and indicate disease severity. The discovery of new biomarkers is incredibly valuable in the field of diagnostics.
