Total Organic Carbon Analysis for Purified Water and Water for Injection using Teledyne Tekmar’s Fusion TOC Analyzer
8 Jul 2015In pharmaceuticals, water, specifically Purified Water (PW) and Water for Intravenous Injection (WFI), is vital for drug preparation. Producing and ensuring the cleanliness of this water entails very strict quality control and precise analytical testing methods. This application note presents data following strict criteria set by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and Japanese Pharmacopeia (JP), verifying the suitability of Teledyne Tekmar’s TOC Analyzer for the analysis of TOC at 0.05 mgC/mL, as opposed to the current standard of 0.5 mgC/L.

Water PurificationThere are a number of water purification methods available to remove contamination from laboratory water. These systems include demineralization, reverse osmosis, filtration and ultrafiltration. A combination of methods is sometimes necessary to achieve purified water suitable for use in experiments.Ultrapure WaterUltrapure water is the highest purity water and contains the lowest levels of organic and inorganic contaminants, particulates and microorganisms.Oxidation Reduction PotentialWater AnalysisAnalytical methods used to test the purity of drinking water include determining the level of contaminants abides to the level set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).Pure WaterPure water is processed to remove significant level of contaminants and is suitable for use in many laboratory applications.Total Organic Carbon AnalysisCarbon Analysis
