The impact of single use technologies

25 Oct 2024

Bioprocessing systems using single-use technologies (SUTs) which offer tremendous advantages to industry users. They are widely used in cell culture allowing for quick, economical, and scalable production. They are additionally used at every production stage—from buffer and media preparation through filling and shipment, and from small- to large-scale production, single-use systems can be adapted to virtually any process.

After several life cycle assessments (LCAs) of the environmental impact of SUTs, it has raised some concerns for their carbon footprint. Thermo Scientific's™ mission in its Green by design project, has investigated this to characterize the environmental impact of SUTs.

Cell / Tissue CultureCell culture or tissue culture is used to study the biology of cells or tissues and to isolate cellular products in an environment which can be manipulated and well defined. Accurately control your culture environment with bioreactors or culture incubators, bind your cells to a surface or together with an extracellular matrix. Distinguish cell types with differential media or proliferate cells with certain characteristics using selective media. Enrich your media with supplements such as growth factors, sera and vitamins. Find the best cell and tissue culture products, kits and equipment in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.Environmental AnalysisEnvironmental analysis describes a variety of tests that determine the effect of chemicals, processes and particulates such as persistent organic pollutants (POPs) have on the environment.
