Analytical balances are at the heart of virtually all quantitative analyses performed in regulated GxP laboratories. Accurate weighing is essential to many critical steps within the laboratory, for example preparation of analytical reference standards, taking aliquots of samples for analysis and preparation of solution, buffers and HPLC mobile phases. Therefore, analytical balances used in these laboratory operations need to be under control, as this is the essence of good analytical science. If there are problems with the analytical balance or the way it is used, then either of these two factors will have a major impact on the work of the entire laboratory. This application note explains the procedures required for precise and accurate weighing.
