SmartPrep® SPE Cartridge System Removing Residual Water from SPE Packings

2 Sept 2015

When using solid-phase extraction (SPE) to process aqueous samples, one major requirement, or desire, is the ability to effectively remove all residual water from the SPE packing material after the water sample has been processed. The most effective method for this is to use nitrogen gas purge. This application note reviews the effectiveness of a nitrogen purge procedure, such that an end user can decide for themselves, the nitrogen purge time that might be adequate for their own specific method(s).

Products to assist sample preparation include filtration equipment, evaporators, membranes and sieves.Washing EquipmentWashing equipment is more convenient than ever before with automated systems, integrated and multi-application systems available. For instance microplate washers can be programmable, combined with reagents dispensers and used for applications such as ELISA, multiplex assays and PCR clean up.Solid-Phase ExtractionSolid-phase extraction (SPE) is used for clean-up, extraction and concentration of semi-volatile or non-volatile analytes from complex mixtures including blood, urine and food samples. Multiple formats are available for conducting SPE, including prepacked SPE cartridges, disks and microplates, as well as SPE sorbent powders for manual packing. SPE systems can be used to automate the process and extract multiple samples at once. Solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and supported liquid extraction (SLE) products are also available in the same formats. It is widely used in environmental, pharmaceutical, and clinical analysis. SPE provides higher sensitivity and selectivity compared to traditional liquid-liquid extraction methods, making it essential for accurate and reproducible results.
