Rapid Quantification of Viable Fungi in Hospital Environments using solid-phase cytometry

19 Nov 2017

Monitoring enviromental fungal contamination in hospitals is paramount for outbreak investigations or during building construction and renovation work. This application note assesses Solid-Phase Cytometry systems and Coriolis µ air sampling against conventional culture methods, revealing a rapid monitoring response and increased detection level that could be used for early warning systems in hospitals to assess risk of infection in wards with immunosuppressed patients.

Coriolis µ - Air Sampler

Bertin Technologies

The Coriolis Micro portable biological air sampler is a standard for testing air quality. Both indoors and outdoors, it’s the most efficient biological air sampler: It can take just 10 minutes to collect airborne particles using its cyclonic technology paired with a high suction rate. By generating samples in the fluid phase, Coriolis µ is compatible with rapid microbiological analysis methods.

Environmental Monitoring and TestingEnvironmental monitoring and testing uses handheld portable analyzers, kits, spectrometers or chromatography systems for air, water, soil, food and other sample testing. Useful features of analyzers such as BOD and COD include portability, easy calibration, automation and sensitivity.  Environmental test kits for pH, water, moisture, etc, should be accurate, sensitive, reliable, fast and easy to use.Environmental ContaminationContaminants in the environment are harmful chemicals that are present in the air, land and water. These include pesticides, pharmaceuticals, persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and many more.
