Quantitative Determination of Key Components in the Traditional Chinese Remedy “Red Flower Oil” by FT-IR Spectroscopy

8 Nov 2010

This application note demonstrates that Infrared spectroscopy with ATR sampling can be used to obtain a complete, quantitative determination of the quality of red flower oil within two minutes. A PLS calibration against data obtained from GC measurements allows a very precise determination of methyl salicylate, eugenol and a-pinene.

Gas ChromatographyGas chromatography (GC) is an analytical technique used to separate and quantitate mixtures of small and volatile compounds. Gas chromatographs or GC systems include components such as GC columns, detectors, pumps and autosamplers. Choose from packed or capillary GC columns, flame ionization (FID), photoionization (PID) electron capture detectors and selective or non-selective detectors.
