Quantitation of clinical research steroid analytes from serum utilizing solid phase extraction with LC-MS/MS

15 Jun 2023

In this application note, Phenomenex presents an effective sample cleanup method for steroid analysis in clinical research. The method utilizes a Polymeric Reversed Phase Strata™-X 96-well plate for targeting 19 steroid analytes. Fast chromatographic separation is achieved using a Kinetex® core-shell 2.6 µm C18, 50 x 3.0 mm column.

LC-MSLC-MS (liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry) systems and equipment are used for separation and quantitative analysis of complex mixtures, combining liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. Quantify proteins, contaminants, pesticides or screen for drug metabolites with a high level of sensitivity. LC-MS systems and equipment include reverse phase, normal phase and specialized columns integrated with various MS detectors such as time-of-flight (TOF), quadrupole, orbitrap or ion trap mass analyzers. LC-MS/MS instruments equipped with a qTOF or triple quadrupole analyzer give greater sensitivity and resolving power to your analysis. It is widely used in environmental, pharmaceutical, and clinical analysis. SPE provides higher sensitivity and selectivity compared to traditional liquid-liquid extraction methods, making it essential for accurate and reproducible results.
