Quantification of vitamin C using FT-NIR spectroscopy

12 Dec 2023

In this application note, Thermo Fisher Scientific discusses the analysis of ascorbic acid (vitamin C), a popular dietary supplement and antioxidant, using Fourier transform near-infrared (FT-NIR) spectroscopy. Ascorbic acid is commonly mixed with excipients like starch in various applications, making traditional analysis methods complex and time-consuming. FT-NIR spectroscopy offers a simpler and more rapid alternative, utilizing the electromagnetic spectrum to interact with the sample's characteristic molecular vibrations. The Thermo Scientific™ Antaris™ II Method Development Sampling (MDS) FT-NIR Analyzer was employed to analyze different mixtures of ascorbic acid in starch, providing accurate and reliable data without the need for complicated equipment or highly trained analysts.
