Photometric Titration of Carboxyl End Groups in Polymers
21 Mar 2014This Application Note describes the photometric titration of carboxyl end groups in polymers using the Optrode. The acidic end groups of the polymer are titrated with an ethanolic KOH solution using bromophenol blue as indicator.

TitrationTitration is an analytical technique for determining substance concentration in a solution. For titration consider a manual or automated system, volumetric or coulometric reagent addition and indication by a potentiometer, spectrometer, turbidometer or by the Karl Fischer method. Other features of titration to consider include burettes, reagents, concentration range, reaction time and autosamplers.PolymersPolymers are large molecules made up of many repeat units. Natural polymers such as DNA and proteins are essential to life, whereas synthetic polymers such as polystyrene and polyethylene are used widely due to their functionality. Typical techniques for analysis include GPC, SEC, DSC, FT-IR and NMR.
