Neutral-to-Analysis Sample Preparation for the Detection of PAH and Phthalates

21 Jun 2011

In this application note from Retsch, samples are prepared for chromatographic analysis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and phthalates. Samples analysed may be heat-sensitive or contain volatile components which can be expelled by the warmth generated during grinding. Only a sample which is representative of the original material can provide meaningful and reliable analysis results. Therefore a two-step size reduction process, using a cutting mill and cryogenic grinder, is presented.
