Measurement of the Reduction of Potassium Ferricyanide by L-Ascobic Acid with a Shimadzu UV-1700 Spectrophotometer using a Stopped-Flow Accesory

3 Oct 2011

This application note describes the performance testing of kinetic instruments specifically the Shimadzu UV-1700 with the stopped-flow accessory, SFA-20. The testing is carried out by using the reduction of Potassium Ferricyanide by Ascorbic Acid. This is a well known kinetic reaction and as the speed of this reaction is dependent on the pH value of the solution it makes this a very useful one for testing the performance of kinetic instruments.

UV-Visible SpectroscopyUltraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometers are used to measure the interaction of UV and visible light with a sample, including transmission, reflectance & absorbance. The two major instrument classes are single-beam or double-beam spectrophotometers. More specialized equipment includes colorimeters, spectroradiometers and refractometers. Portable and microvolume spectrophotometers are also available. For the modular spectroscopy lab, explore a range of light sources for combination with a spectrograph/spectrometer and optics.
