Light Crude Oil Fingerprinting from Six Different Global Regions Using GCxGCTOFMS with Structural Classifications to Compare Functional Group Differences
7 Feb 2013The complex nature of crude oil demands analytical solutions and instrumental methods that will separate and identify the complex chemical profile as well as characterize key chemical functional group class differences between complex samples. This application note compares GCxGC-TOFMS data results of six light crude oil standards from different geographic regions. In addition the advantages of GCxGC-TOFMS to separate, characterize, and classify the chemical composition of light crude oils are presented.

GC-MS GC-MS (gas chromatography-mass spectrometry) instruments and equipment are used to separate, quantify and identify mixtures of small and volatile compounds, such as polycyclic aromatics, fatty acids and alcohols. Often used in drug detection, forensic investigation and environmental analysis for pesticides and contaminants, GC-MS is a powerful addition to your lab’s analytical capabilities. GC-MS/MS instruments equipped with a qTOF or triple quadrupole analyzers can give greater sensitivity and resolution to your analysis.
