Laboratory digital transformation: An IT perspective
12 Jun 2023In this white paper, Thermo Fisher Scientific discusses the digital transformation journey. For the vision of the future, Thermo Fisher Scientific has taken a step back from the previous roadmap laboratory software has gone down. It realizes that the narrow development focus of providing cloud-based indexing services for, or simply cloud hosting of, virtualized software is not enough to actually revolutionize laboratory software technology or support future development. A platform needs to be established first and it needs to be universal from the ground up. Once that is available, downstream development like automating remote instrument maintenance falls into place.

Software PlatformsSoftware platforms are useful for various stages of laboratory experiments from data collection to data storage and processing. For instance lab software is available for system control, data management, data analysis and qualification / validation.Electronic Laboratory NotebooksElectronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELNs) are becoming increasingly popular for documenting experimental processes and for lab data management. An ELN is informatics software which can be biology specific, chemistry specific, cross-disciplinary or web-based. Advantages of an electronic lab notebook include increased data protection, efficiency and straightforward data searching and sharing.Cloud Based Software
