ImageQuant™ 800 for lateral flow assay development using dyes across the spectrum
4 Jan 2022The development of assays based on lateral flow has led to low cost and effective large-scale screening of infectious diseases with high specificity. Lateral flow assays consist of membranes, antibodies, and reagents for the detection of a color change or fluorescent dye. Lateral flow assays are an area of intense research and have led to highly robust and sensitive products, including a range of Whatman™ diagnostic solutions from Cytiva. In this application note, Cytiva investigate the use of Conjugated Polymer Nanoparticles (CPNs™) Amersham™ ImageQuant™ 800 systems for lateral flow assays and Western Blotting.

Western BlottingWestern blotting equipment is used to transfer and identify specific proteins within a sample, reveal protein modifications, as well as give a semi-quantitative estimation of their concentration. Western blotting equipment includes all apparatus necessary to transfer proteins from gel to membrane and subsequent processing steps. Protein transfer can be performed by electroblotting with wet, semi-dry and dry transfer systems onto nitrocellulose and PVDF membranes. Blocking, washing and labeling of membranes follows, involving buffers, blocking reagents, blotting / incubation trays, labeling reagents, immunoblotting assays, antibodies and conjugates. Automated equipment for these steps is available to accelerate your lab workflow. Finally, detection and imaging of proteins can be conducted using gel documentation and imaging systems. This can reveal information on cell health (apoptosis, cytotoxicity, viability and proliferation assays), cell metabolism, cell migration and cell signaling mechanisms. Fluorescence can be detected and measured for different purposes using microplate readers, fluorescence microscopes, fluorescence scanners, and flow cytometers.Lateral Flow AssaysConjugationNanoparticlesNanoparticles are between 1-100nm in size. Nanoparticles can be used for a wide variety of applications including biomedical, catalysis and electronics.
