The case described in this study illustrates the rapidly emerging clinical utility of high-throughput lysis and DNA extraction methods for whole-genome sequencing analysis in the diagnostic microbiology laboratory. The FastPrep-96™ instrument in combination with Lysing Matrix B (0.1mm silica beads) has been demonstrated to be an effective solution to lyse rapidly and efficiently hard-to-lyse gram positive bacteria for successful whole-genome sequencing experiments.
