Hair Spray on an Individual Hair Fiber

23 Apr 2014

Examination of trace components on individual fibers is essential for the linkage of a victim of crime and/or a suspect to the scene of a crime. This application note describes an ATR microscopy method for the fast and easy identification of hairspray on an individual hair fiber.

Spotlight 400 FTIR Imaging System

PerkinElmer

The Spotlight 400 FTIR Imaging System combines high sensitivity and rapid imaging with ease-of-use. The ability to image rapidly large sample areas at high spacial resolution (down to 10 microns) extends IR microscopy into new application areas such as the study of biomaterials such as tissue, bone, leaves etc. The Spotlight 400 can be used in the mid- or near-IR spectral ranges, as well as dual-range, depending on whether, respectively, the Spectrum 100, Spectrum 100N or Spectrum 400 mid-/near- spectrometer is used.Spotlight 400 FTIR Imaging System Features: Solid-state white light illumination. Fully-automated focus, stage movement and illumination. Duet™ detector design containing a single element MCT detector and a linear array MCT imaging detector. Very high sensitivity providing high quality data down to the accepted diffraction limits Rapid-scan IR imaging. 6.25µm, 25µm and 50µm pixel resolution to give flexibility in spacial resolution and imaging line. Can operate in mid-IR, near-IR or dual range to cover the full range of imaging applications in one instrument. Optional ATR imaging improves the spacial resolution by a factor of four, down to 3 microns at 1000 cm-1
