Fast and Confident Identification of Drugs and their Metabolites using Ion Trap LC-MSn Analysis and a Library of >4,500 Compounds
3 Sept 2015Comprehensive screening of urine samples in forensic toxicology and clinical research is focused on the unambiguous identification of parent drugs and their corresponding metabolites. GC-MS is currently the gold standard technology in forensic screening due to the availability of large and well annotated spectral libraries. This application note presents the evaluation of a comprehensive and robust forensic toxicology LC-MSn ion trap spectral library based forensic screening solution to detect and confirm both parent drugs and metabolites in urine as alternative or complementary technology to GC-MS.

ADME-ToxicologyADME-toxicology (ADME-Tox) studies are used in pharmacology and pharmacokinetics to assess the activity/toxicity of drugs in vivo or in vitro. Find bioassays for absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of drug molecules including cytotoxicity, transporter/permeability, metabolism and activity assays as well as hepatocytes and cell lines for ADME. Find the best ADME-toxicology products in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.Toxicology / Drugs of Abuse TestingToxicology and Drugs of Abuse Testing is the investigation into toxic and illegal substances found at the scene of a crime or from a suspect and / or victim associated with a scene of a crime. Analyzers, immunoassays and drugs of abuse test kits and presumptive test kits are an essential aspect of toxicology investigation.GC-MS GC-MS (gas chromatography-mass spectrometry) instruments and equipment are used to separate, quantify and identify mixtures of small and volatile compounds, such as polycyclic aromatics, fatty acids and alcohols. Often used in drug detection, forensic investigation and environmental analysis for pesticides and contaminants, GC-MS is a powerful addition to your lab’s analytical capabilities. GC-MS/MS instruments equipped with a qTOF or triple quadrupole analyzers can give greater sensitivity and resolution to your analysis. Find the best GC-MS instruments and equipment in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.Drug TestingIt is essential to test the efficacy and toxicity of drugs at every stage of their development to ensure that a pharmaceutical product is fit for purpose and safe for use before reaching the stage of mass production and distribution.Clinical StudyProspective biomedical or behavioral research studies on human subjects, following tests in animals, that are designed to answer specific questions about novel vaccines, drugs, treatments, dietary supplements, devices or new ways of using known interventions, generating safety and efficacy data.Forensic ToxicologyForensic toxicology is used to determine cause of death, drug use and contaminations. Toxicological evaluations are commonly used in analytical chemistry, clinical, life sciences and forensics.Drug MetabolismDrug metabolism is the enzymatic conversion within the body of pharmaceutical substances into other chemical compounds. The primary site for drug metabolism is the liver.UrineThe analysis of urine is important in medicinal, anti-doping, forensic and life sciences applications. The ability to evaluate what someone has ingested through their urine enables fast detection and diagnosis of certain illnesses.
