Berries of schisandra (Shisandra chinensis) have been widely used for medicinal purposes in traditional Chinese medicines for centuries. The berries contain a wide variety of organic compounds with dibenzo[a,c]cyclooctadiene lignans being of particular interest. This application note demonstrates the feasibility of using the Prep100q SFC System as a tool for isolating schisandrin A from dry schisandra berries extract using supercritical fluid extraction (SFE).

Products to assist sample preparation include filtration equipment, evaporators, membranes and sieves.Supercritical Fluid ChromatographySupercritical Fluid Chromatography (SFC) is used for the rapid separation and analysis of complex mixtures. SFC systems require injectors, pumps, columns, ovens and detectors. The SFC retention method uses a supercritical fluid, usually CO2. There are a number of different SFC detector types including UV / VIs, ECD, mass spectrometry and fluorescence.Natural ProductsLow Extractable Levels
