Evaluation of the First Microarray-Based Molecular Screening Test for Eight Gastrointestinal Pathogens Using the Automated NanoCHIP Platform

22 May 2014

Gastroenteritis is a challenging syndrome to diagnose clinically and microbiologically. The Savyon Gastrointestinal Panel (GIP) is a block-based multiplex nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) that detects eight enteric pathogens. The objective of this study was to assess the analytical sensitivity of the GIP assay and to compare the detection capability of the Savyon GIP for diarrhoeal samples positive by conventional methods (culture/microscopy/ELISA).

NanoCHIP® XL Analyzer

Savyon Diagnostics

The NanoChip® system is an automated, multi-purpose instrument which is used for clinical molecular diagnostics. Clinical microbiology, genetics/cytogenetics and pathology laboratories use this convenient platform to identify pathogenic infections, carriage of genetic disorders, predisposition to diseases and response to pharmaceutical therapies. The NanoCHIP® technology is intended for those users that require: Medium-to high throughput Multiplex molecular testing (over 4 markers/sample) Automation Simplicity Full LIS connectivity

MicrobiologyMicrobiology is the study of microorganisms including protists, prokaryotes, fungi, and, often, viruses. Microorganisms are a useful research tool as genetic vectors and, in immunology, for antibiotic susceptibility testing, cellular biology and genetics. Microorganisms commonly grow readily in incubators with microbial culture media; this can contain chromogenic supplements to differentiate between cell lines. Estimate your culture’s density of microorganisms with colony counters, or screen and select colonies for desirable clones with automated colony pickers. Additionally, equipment is available to monitor environments for the presence of microbes and identify with microbial identification instruments.
