Elimination of Excess Water for Method 1664A/B by Automated Solid Phase Extraction Utilizing the SPE-DEX® 1000/3000XL Controller v2.2

10 Nov 2014

This application note introduces a modification to the preprogrammed methods on the Horizon Technology SPE-DEX 1000/3000XL Controller with application firmware version 2.2. The methods are utilized in the solid phase extraction (SPE) process to extract samples for EPA Method 1664AB and fulfill QC requirements. EPA Method 1664 is a performance based method which is used to find the total n-Hexanes extractable material (HEM) and the silica-gel treated n-Hexanes extractable material (SGT-HEM) within a sample.

Automated Liquid HandlingAutomated liquid handling equipment is used to mix, dilute and dispense allotted volumes of liquid into microplates and other vessels automatically. The robotic, liquid handling arms can dispense from single channel to 3456 multichannel as well as operate nanoliter dispensing, enabling high throughput of samples. Find the best automated liquid handlers in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.Evaporators and Freeze DryersCentrifugal evaporation is used for solvent removal from a sample. This is a useful technique for sample concentration or sample drying. Many centrifugal evaporators are modular with a central vacuum pump for generating low pressure. Useful features of evaporators or vacuum ovens include minimal solvent bumping, solvent resistance, computer control, temperature regulation and benchtop design.Solid Phase Extraction (SPE)Solid phase extraction (SPE) is a sample preparation technique used to separate and concentrate analytes from complex mixtures. It is widely used in environmental, pharmaceutical, and clinical analysis. SPE provides higher sensitivity and selectivity compared to traditional liquid-liquid extraction methods, making it essential for accurate and reproducible results.
