Dynamic Determination of Volatile Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Water
2 Jun 2013Due to their toxicity and persistence in the environment, Volatile Aromatic Organic Compounds are particularly dangerous pollutants. Government agencies require these contaminants to be monitored at progressive lower levels. In this application note Master DHS/P&T coupled to Master GC demonstrates that the Purge&Trap is the technique of choice when in need to reach the minimum detectable levels required by law in force. This is demonstrated in the analysis reported below that shows excellent chromatographic resolution and repeatability with no risk of cross-contamination.

Gas ChromatographyGas chromatography (GC) is an analytical technique used to separate and quantitate mixtures of small and volatile compounds. Gas chromatographs or GC systems include components such as GC columns, detectors, pumps and autosamplers. Choose from packed or capillary GC columns, flame ionization (FID), photoionization (PID) electron capture detectors and selective or non-selective detectors. Find the best gas chromatographs in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.Environmental Monitoring and TestingEnvironmental monitoring and testing uses handheld portable analyzers, kits, spectrometers or chromatography systems for air, water, soil, food and other sample testing. Useful features of analyzers such as BOD and COD include portability, easy calibration, automation and sensitivity. Environmental test kits for pH, water, moisture, etc, should be accurate, sensitive, reliable, fast and easy to use.Water AnalysisAnalytical methods used to test the purity of drinking water include determining the level of contaminants abides to the level set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).VolatilesVolatiles are a group of compounds that have a low boiling point and evaporate at room temperature. Volatiles, such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), can be used to determine shelf-life of food samples. GC-MS is typically used to analyze volatiles.Environmental ContaminationContaminants in the environment are harmful chemicals that are present in the air, land and water. These include pesticides, pharmaceuticals, persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and many more.
