Differential Effects of Camel Milk on Insulin Receptor Signaling; Toward Understanding the Insulin-Like Properties of Camel Milk
11 Oct 2016This white paper details a study in which the Mithras2 LB 943 Multimode Reader was used to measure bioluminescence resonance energy transfer (BRET) between the human insulin receptor and signaling proteins. The study looks at the effect of camel’s milk, which has been shown to have substantial hypoglycemic activity, on the human insulin receptor (hIR) and related cell signaling pathways. The Mithras2 LB 943 Multimode Reader allowed assessment of BRET in live cells and in real-time.

BiosensorsBiosensors are devices used to detect an analyte using biological molecules specific to the analyte coupled to a detector. Biosensor instruments may be photometric, typically using surface plasma resonance (SPR), electrochemical or QCM (quartz crystal microbalance) biosensors. Biosensors should be selective, portable, robust and sensitive and have a fast response time. Systems may be manual or automated and usually have associated software.Assay AssemblyAssay Assembly is technique used in drug discovery to develop assays to test the cytotoxicity, genotoxicity, or other activities of a compound on a cell. Assay assembly requires chip assembly, a delivery system and a detection and analysis method. Beneficial features of assay kits or automated systems include high-throughput, high speed and sensitivity and low signal to noise ratio.Cell-Based AssaysCell-based assays are used to monitor the presence, quantity and activities of a desired cellular analyte including drug molecules or biomarkers. This can reveal information on cell health (apoptosis, cytotoxicity, viability and proliferation assays), cell metabolism, cell migration and cell signaling mechanisms. Find the best cell-based assay products, kits and equipment with our peer reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receiving pricing direct from manufacturers.Plate ProcessingAutomated plate processing is used in microplate technologies for high-throughput, speed and efficiency. Plate processing systems include microplate handlers for moving plates, heat sealers, stackers and carousels for storage, retrieval and delivery, microplate washers and piercers. Useful features of plate processors include walk-away automation, compatibility and easy integration with microplate systems.Fluorescence Based AssayFluorescence based assays are widely used in life science research and high-throughput screening to measure a broad range of cellular activities.BioluminescenceAssay DevelopmentThe process of proving an assay to be sensitive with respect to the target is known as assay development. The assay should be able to characterize novel compounds and measure the potency of these compounds against a validated biological target.Insulin
