Determining dissolved oxygen in water: Titration or direct measurement?
23 Apr 2020Dissolved oxygen is a term describing the amount of oxygen molecules (O2) which are dissolved in a liquid phase under certain conditions. In this white paper, two different methods for the analysis of dissolved oxygen, titration and direct measurement, are compared and contrasted to help analysts determine which method is more suitable for their specific applications. Here, Metrohm primarily focuses on the determination of dissolved O2 in water. However, the same principle applies for other liquid phases such as non-alcoholic or alcoholic beverages.

Gas Generators and AnalyzersGas generators are used for supplying or monitoring a regular flow of a high purity gas such as nitrogen, hydrogen or zero air for applications such as gas chromatography. Gas analyzers can be used in supply chain processes and laboratory experiments with portable analyzers for monitoring CO2 and O2 levels as well as trace gases. Regular flow can be produced with gas control modules and flow meters. Find the best gas generators and analyzers in our peer-reviewed product directory: compare products, check customer reviews and receive pricing direct from manufacturers.TitrationTitration is an analytical technique for determining substance concentration in a solution. For titration consider a manual or automated system, volumetric or coulometric reagent addition and indication by a potentiometer, spectrometer, turbidometer or by the Karl Fischer method. Other features of titration to consider include burettes, reagents, concentration range, reaction time and autosamplers.Gas AnalysisGas analysis is used to measure the composition of gases in various environments, such as industrial processes, air quality monitoring, and environmental studies. Techniques like gas chromatography and mass spectrometry are commonly used.
