Biopsy of Blastomeres from Cleavage-stage Mouse Embryos with Eppendorf PiezoXpert®

29 Jan 2015

Embryo biopsy is the removal of one or more cells from the preimplantation embryo. For biopsy the 8-cell stage embryo is prevalently used because of its mitotic index and totipotency of the individual cells. The biopsy procedure requires an opening in the zona pellucida (ZP), which is usually performed chemically, mechanically or using laser systems. This Application Note introduces a piezo-assisted mouse embryo biopsy technique using the Eppendorf PiezoXpert. The survival of biopsied embryos was verified at the morula and blastocyst stages.

Gene Expression and Molecular CloningMolecular cloning is a set of techniques that utilizes vectors to transfer recombinant DNA into host cells and is an essential tool for investigating the expression of genes and proteins in bacterial or mammalian cells. A variety of vectors optimized for gene cloning and expression in a range of host organisms are available, alongside competent cells for genetic replication. Here, you can explore a range of molecular tools, high-quality genomic and cDNA libraries, premade clones, transformation and transfection reagents and mutagenesis or gene expression detection assays and expression arrays.
