Union Biometrica designs and manufactures a unique line of large-bore flow cytometers for automated analysis, sorting and dispensing of objects too big for traditional flow cytometers. Such objects include whole model organisms (i.e. C. elegans, Drosophila embryos and larvae, and Zebrafish embryos), cell clusters, pancreatic islets, embryoid bodies, small seeds, pollen and beads -- virtually anything between 40 - 1500 microns. Objects are simultaneously analyzed based on up to five physical parameters, including size, optical density, and up to three fluorescent wavelengths. Objects are then sorted according to user-defined criteria, and gently dispensed -- with no effect on viability -- into multi-well plates (24, 48, 96-well, etc.) or into a bulk receptacle. Our technology and instruments have enabled researchers across many fields to perform accurate and reproducible high-throughput screening of samples normally requiring hand-sorting. Our instruments are inexpensive relative to traditional flow cytometers, and within reach of many individual labs and shared facilities.
COPAS instruments provide flow cytometry for objects that are too large for traditional cytometers and offer an alternative to manual sorting (under a microscope). These systems sort and dispense objects based on size and fluorescent parameters. Automating this process offers increased speed, sensitivity, quantification, and repeatability of experiments.
