Easy enough for undergraduate success
Undergraduate Lab exercises
Student learning is enhanced when they have real research experiences. Zymo's fecal/soil DNA miniprep kit allows me to bring modern microbiological questions into the lab with great success. The DNA prep is simple enough for an undergraduate to successfully perform and yields high quality DNA in sufficient quantity for PCR amplification and sequencing. This allows me to develop labs that explore the presence of specific organisms in environmental samples without having to culture risky bacteria.

An excellent and easy to use kit, I obtained high quantity of high quality DNA.
Analyze microbiomes from soil samples
I used this kit to extract DNA from soil in order to study its microbiome. This is a great and easy to use kit, the DNA obtained had a good quality, so it was suitable for NGS. The results was more than I expected. I highly recommend this kit if you want to perform this type of analysis.

Quick-DNA™ Fecal/Soil Microbe Miniprep Kit is designed for the simple and rapid isolation of inhibitor-free, PCR-quality host cell and microbial DNA from a variety of sample sources including humans, birds, rats, mice, cattle, etc. The procedure is easy and can be completed in minutes: fecal samples are rapidly and efficiently lysed by bead beating with our state of the art, ultra-high density BashingBeads™. Fast-Spin column technology is then used to isolate the DNA which is subsequently filtered to remove humic acids/polyphenols that can inhibit PCR. Eluted DNA is ideal for downstream molecular-based applications including PCR, arrays, genotyping, methylation detection, etc.
