Application Area:

Histology, IHC

I'm not going to say there haven't been issues, there have been. Terry and Ryan have been awesome in that area, alway's willing to trouble shoot. We have utilized the "StatSwap" twice I think. Overall, the purchase has been a massive upgrade from what we used to do!

Manufacturer's Response

Thank you for your feedback! We're happy to hear the upgrade has made a positive impact and that our team has been able to provide excellent support. We appreciate your trust in our PiSmart printers and our team, and will continue to work with you and support your lab.

Better sample labeling and tracking empowers better patient care. The PiSmart S2 Slide Printer with included PathSmart Tracking Solution incorporates two hoppers for pre-loading different slide types. An additional single-slide manual load option allows users to bypass the hoppers when needed. The robust PiSmart workflow solution delivers intuitive, built-in software, a simple interface, and excellent connectivity options.

  • Small footprint supports on-demand printing right next to the microtome
  • Fast, 3-5 second print time
  • Touchscreen with easy-to-use interface
  • Dark, high contrast barcode printing ensures scannability
  • Built in scanners and easy LIS integration

Finally, printers that work as hard as you do to keep patient samples safe. Hoppers hold 72 slides each, for a total of 144 slides.

PiSmart Slide Printer Brochure

In this product brochure, StatLab demonstrates how you can increase laboratory automation, maximize throughput, and reduce errors with the PiSmart slide printer, empowering you to spend your time meeting patient needs.

Highest quality slide printing enhances specimen identification

Clinical laboratories rely on clear, consistent slide labeling for accurate diagnostics, efficient workflow, and regulatory compliance. Yet slide printing issues—poor print quality, smudging, inconsistent scans, and ribbon failures—remain persistent frustrations for lab staff.

This whitepaper from StatLab evaluates how KT™ series slides perform in the PiSmart slide printer system. The results are compelling: Exceptional print quality, 100% scan success, and zero ribbon failures across thousands of slides tested.

What's inside?

This white paper equips lab professionals with data-driven insights to select slide and printer combinations that enhance traceability and minimize maintenance interruptions.

For labs seeking to eliminate reprints and misreads, this is an essential guide.

Are your slides sticky enough for tricky tissues?

Tissue loss during IHC staining is more than a nuisance—it’s a costly threat to diagnostic integrity. Failed slides mean delayed results, additional labor, and higher reagent costs, particularly for challenging tissue types like breast or skin.

This new StatLab white paper, “Are your slides sticky enough?” compares leading adhesion slides under rigorous IHC testing, including aggressive antigen retrieval protocols. The KT5+™ Premium Adhesion Slides emerge with the strongest performance and lowest failure rates—making them a smart choice for labs that can't afford to compromise.

Why this resource matters:

In a climate of tighter budgets and rising case complexity, this guide helps lab professionals reduce costly slide rework and maintain high diagnostic quality.

Why choose on-demand printing over batch printing?

In pathology labs, even small labeling errors can have serious consequences for patient safety. A study conducted by Henry Ford Hospital revealed that traditional batch printing and hand labeling can result in significant mislabeling rates—21% for slides and 5.7% for cassettes. However, by transitioning to on-demand printing, these errors were dramatically reduced by 95% for slides and 3.5% for cassettes.

In this application note, Statlab explains how the StatLab PiSmart Cassette and Slide Printers are designed to minimize human error, improve efficiency, and enhance traceability in your lab.

By integrating on-demand printing into your workflow, you can:

  • Reduce mislabeling errors and improve patient safety
  • Streamline workflow efficiency with faster, automated processes
  • Simplify staff training with an easy-to-use interface
  • Enhance documentation by updating SOPs, work instructions, and checklists
  • Improve tracking and connectivity with LIS integration and PathSmart software
