ITEX Dynamic Headspace - Rapid and efficient enrichment of volatile and semi-volatile

As an alternative to purge and trap (P&T) thermal desorption, in-tube extraction (ITEX) dynamic headspace offers excellent sensitivity for the analysis of volatiles and semi-volatile organics in solid, liquid and gas samples, without the cost and complexity of classical P&T systems.
ITEX dynamic headspace uses a gas-tight syringe to collect the headspace and a microtrap inside the syringe needle to efficiently extract and concentrate volatile and semi-volatile compounds. This is a syringe-only concept with no sample loops, transfer lines, or switching valves that could be contaminated. The five stages of the ITEX procedure are shown below.
Analysis of VOCs in water using the TriPlus RSH ITEX system
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are a diverse group of carbon-based chemicals that easily evaporate into the air at room temperature, posing potential health risks and contributing to air pollution and the formation of ground-level ozone and smog. CTC Analytics presents a method for quantifying VOCs in drinking water using the TriPlus™ RSH ITEX system coupled with a Thermo Scientific™ ISQ™ 7000 MS system and a Thermo Scientific™ TRACE™ 1310 Gas Chromatograph. The goal being to demonstrate a routine analytical method with evaluated linearity and detection limits.
