Trilobio, a developer of whole lab automation solutions for advancing biology research, has introduced the first version of its comprehensive robotics, lab equipment and software platform at SLAS2025, alongside pilot customer data, demonstrating the platform’s abilities in advancing research workflows.

The foundation of the Trilobio platform is the Trilobot, a multifunctional robot built on standardized hardware and software; enabling the operation of any Trilobio research tool and intermodular collaboration between Trilobots to scale up research operations.

By facilitating whole lab operations to be automated, Trilobio’s mission is to support biologists to maximize the potential of their research easily, accurately, and reliably. A key focus is overcoming the cost, complexity, configuration and training hurdles that prevent scientists from adopting automation more broadly.

Trilobio OS is the software engine of the platform, combining protocol design, optimization, and execution with an automated lab notebook and LIMS. It enables biologists to design advanced research protocols via a no-code GUI rather than machine code. Trilobio OS determines the optimal execution of the protocol and biologists can automatically optimize any protocol for speed, cost or accuracy.

By combining the standardized hardware of the Trilobot and with the innovative software of Trilobio OS, all research protocols built on the platform are reproducible on any other Trilobio configuration without the need to recalibrate Trilobots or rewrite protocols.

Robotic InstrumentsRobotic instruments can be used for high-throughput automation of many lab processes. Such processes use instruments for assays like cell based assays and ELISA, for sample preparation like shakers, centrifuges and incubators, and for analysis such as sequencing and western blot analyzers. Useful features of robotic instruments include speed, reproducibility, barcode readers, software and automation.Electronic Laboratory NotebooksElectronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELNs) are becoming increasingly popular for documenting experimental processes and for lab data management. An ELN is informatics software which can be biology specific, chemistry specific, cross-disciplinary or web-based. Advantages of an electronic lab notebook include increased data protection, efficiency and straightforward data searching and sharing.LIMSLIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) is an informatics software system used to improve the quality assurance and quality control (QA / QC) of data management. LIMS can be a standard for common lab workflows, such as commercial off the shelf systems (COTS), or customized for more specialized lab use. Systems are available for mainframe computers or PC.Liquid HandlingLiquid handling involves the precise transfer, mixing, and dispensing of liquids in laboratory settings. It is essential for accurate and consistent results in biological, chemical, and pharmaceutical research. Automated liquid handling systems improve efficiency and reduce human error in sample preparation and analysis.
