Tosoh Bioscience LLC is proud to announce the introduction of its newest mobile application, The Chromatography Calculator. The app is now available for free download on Apple, Android, and HTML 5 devices.

Based on the popular resource found on the Tosoh website, the Chromatography Calculator app is an easy-to-use tool for equations commonly used in high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). It includes fourteen equations, from basic calculations for the novice chromatographer, to advanced equations used for system sustainability and pressure-flow studies.

Users can use the Chromatography Calculator to determine the following values: total or empty column volume; linear velocity; mobile phase porosity; empty column volume; linear flow rate from volumetric flow rate; volumetric flow rate from empty column linear flow rate; relationship between linear velocity and empty column linear flow rate; theoretical changes in pressure after changing particle size; Ergun Modification of the Blake-Kozeny Equations for pressure-flow; number of theoretical plates; peak asymmetry factor; tailing factor; height equivalent to a theoretical plate (HETP); reduced plate height (h); and calculation of chromatographic resolution.

Additionally, the app also provides conversions for pressure, volume, and length units. Its ease-of-use design provides a quick and easy resource for all relevant HPLC equations and conversions, making it an indispensable and educational tool for any lab. The Chromatography Calculator is the second mobile application from Tosoh Bioscience, joining the Tosoh GPC Glossary app, which provides the definitions of the important terms associated with gel permeation chromatography in an interactive, searchable database. The glossary contains easy to understand definitions, examples, discussions, and illustrations that result in concise, clear information.

The app is available to download from iTunes, Google play and as HTML5.

UHPLC and HPLCHigh performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC), also known as UPLC, are analytical techniques used to separate, identify and quantitate components of complex mixtures including biological samples such as proteins and lipids as well as chemical mixtures of pesticides, drugs and oils. Both techniques are liquid chromatographic methods but differ by operating pressures (HPLC < 6000 psi < UHPLC ). Components of HPLC and UHPLC systems include columns, detectors, pumps, autosamplers and column heaters. Explore a range of UHPLC and HPLC columns for your specific sample needs including reverse phase, normal phase, ion exchange, HILIC, ion exclusion and size exclusion columns. For more specialized HPLC, explore FPLC, countercurrent LC and simulated moving bed systems. It is widely used in fields like biochemistry, pharmaceuticals, and environmental analysis. By exploiting differences in the interaction of substances with a stationary phase and a mobile phase, chromatography enables precise purification and quantification of compounds. Whether you're working with complex biological samples or industrial chemicals, chromatography is essential for obtaining high-quality results.
