Thermo Electron Corporation, world leader in analytical instrumentation, strengthens its position in high-sensitivity bioanalysis with the introduction of FAIMS (High-Field Asymmetric Ion Mobility Mass Spectrometry) as an option for its TSQ Quantum™ triple quadrupole mass spectrometers.

Patented FAIMS technology has been demonstrated to help in the development of LC/MS/MS methods for drug quantitation by improving analyte selectivity in complex sample analyses.

Rohan Thakur, TSQ product manager, Thermo Electron, says “We believe that the addition of FAIMS will contribute tremendously to our customer's ability to push their detection limits even further. This is critical to the acceleration of drug discovery research.”

Thermo’s hardware and software solutions address the ever-increasing demand of the pharmaceutical industry for lower detection limits and more robust assays. In addition to FAIMS, these products include:

  • H-SRM (Highly Selective Reaction Monitoring). This analytical application helps to further eliminate chemical noise and reduce the generation of false positives, and allows lower detection limits.
  • H-ESI (Heated Electrospray Ionization). Versatile LC-MS/MS ionization system enables high sensitivity analysis of a wide range of thermally labile compounds and flow rates.
  • QuickQuan™. Software for automating high-throughput LC-MS/MS assays in early drug discovery.
  • LCQUAN™ 2.5. This data acquisition system features a bi-directional interface with Thermo's Watson LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) to provide secure, digital data transfer that is tailored for bioanalysis.
  • Watson™ LIMS. A laboratory information management system for bioanalytical labs.
  • Galileo LIMS. This is a template-driven LIMS system for ADMET in which the experiments are defined up-front simply by applying a design template to the test compound.

Thermo’s TSQ Quantum™ triple quadrupole mass spectrometers offer the proven reliability necessary for the most demanding analytical laboratories. The combination of the TSQ Quantum and these new features provides researchers with a toolkit to address the challenges of developing highly specific and highly sensitive LC/MS/MS methods for drug quantitation. These technologies are available only on the TSQ Quantum, providing unmatched advantages over other triple quadrupole mass spectrometers.
