Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announces the launch of its Thermo Scientific ToxID™ software for liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (LC/MS) analyses. The intuitive software is the latest addition to the comprehensive range of Thermo Scientific solutions for toxicology and forensic applications. The new software, along with the recently unveiled EasyTox™ Productivity Solution for GC/MS analyses, will be showcased on booth #221 at the Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) 60th Anniversary Scientific Meeting in Washington, D.C., February 20-22, 2008.

Thermo Scientific ToxID software is an easy-to-use software application that dramatically simplifies LC-MS/MS toxicology screening workflows for toxicology and forensic laboratories. The software uses compound retention time and MS/MS spectra for confident and accurate compound identification. Pre-defined LC-MS/MS instrument and sample preparation methods are provided to handle several classes of compounds for General Unknown Screening (GUS) analysis. The ToxID freeware and its compound library are easily customizable and expandable to fit a laboratory’s specific needs.

ToxID works with the Thermo Scientific Xcalibur® Data system and LCQUAN™ quantitation software for seamless and integrated operation. Clear and concise sample reports are generated automatically. The software is compatible with Thermo Scientific ion trap mass spectrometers for unprecedented qualitative power in compound identification for the toughest samples or with Thermo Scientific triple quadrupole mass spectrometers for simultaneous quantitative and qualitative compound confirmation.

Also showcased for the first time on booth #221 at AAFS is the Thermo Scientific EasyTox Productivity Solution, a comprehensive turnkey package for GC/MS analysis. The platform is designed to deliver optimum performance in forensic, clinical and medical laboratories that conduct analysis of urine for signs of drugs abuse. The easy-to-use solution optimizes productivity and enables scientists to streamline workflows for routine GC/MS confirmations, reducing their workload. The complete kit covers GC/MS confirmation methods which have been fully validated in urine matrix to ensure compliance.

The new EasyTox solution consists of the Thermo Scientific DSQ™ II single quadrupole GC/MS system, ToxLab™ Forms 2.0 software and GC/MS methods, consumables and columns. It offers scientists increased flexibility and can be customized to meet the needs of their laboratory, while the rapid GC/MS analysis ensures high throughput.

Thermo Fisher will be exhibiting an extensive line of Thermo Scientific forensics analysis products at AAFS, including UV/Vis, FT-IR, Anatomical Pathology, LC/MS and GC/MS instrumentation. The complete equipment offering for forensics laboratories includes products for evidence collection, evidence storage, sample preparation, crime laboratory analysis, autopsy preparation, tissue processing and information & documentation processing.
