InforSense Ltd., the leading provider of next-generation business and scientific intelligence tools, today announced that Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, has begun shipping its Proteome Discoverer software with integrated protein annotation powered by the InforSense Virtual Machine (IVM). This is the first Thermo Fisher Scientific software that embeds the IVM and marks a major milestone in a long relationship between the two companies.

Proteome Discoverer’s protein annotation capabilities are based on workflows jointly developed by Thermo Fisher Scientific and InforSense. The workflows perform automated annotation of proteomics data using information from NCBI and SWISS-PROT to provide biological context to experimental data. The workflows in Proteome Discoverer are powered by the IVM: a lightweight, analytical workflow execution engine that can run on a wide variety of platforms including workstations, servers, scientific instrumentation, and mobile devices. As a result of its small footprint, it is effortlessly installed and simple to maintain, update and extend, eliminating the complexity typically found with traditional software installations.

Proteome Discoverer is fully compatible with the InforSense 5.0 platform, and customers will be able to build their own annotation workflows and share them via the InforSense CustomerHub on-line community. Users of Proteome Discoverer can upgrade to a full InforSense license to build their own analytical workflows and integrate internal data to provide further annotation.

“As proteomics has evolved, the need to support advanced and flexible annotation of proteomics data has grown. The IVM gives us the power and flexibility to support the changing requirements of our customers,” said Andreas Hühmer, Proteomics Marketing Director, Thermo Fisher Scientific. “The ability to update client software without performing a new distribution and installation is a major advantage to us, reducing our costs and improving our ability to respond to our customers.”

“Today’s announcement is an important milestone for Thermo Fisher and InforSense, and we are delighted to have worked closely with them to introduce the first Virtual Machine-based product to the market,” said Prof. Yike Guo, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of InforSense Ltd. “Our work with Thermo Fisher Scientific is a key collaboration for us and illustrates how our next generation scientific business intelligence technology is effectively automating data integration and analysis tasks. We believe that this real time analytics model is an important step forward for the life sciences industry.”
