Product news

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. today announced the new Thermo Scientific Nunc IVF centrifuge and cryopreservation tubes for improved sample safety and protection. These consumables are certified free of toxins that would impair viability during the centrifugation and cryogenic freezing processes. Thoroughly tested against the highest available standards, the Nunc™ IVF consumables range ensures safety and reproducibility for in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures.

As quality and reliability are critical to successful IVF, these Nunc centrifuge and cryopreservation tubes are MEA (mouse embryo assay) and HSSA (human sperm motility assay) tested and certified. Compliance with these standards maintains cell viability before and after long-term storage. Made of polystyrene, the IVF centrifuge tubes are HSSA tested so as not to impact on sperm motility. Furthermore, the cryopreservation tubes are produced in accordance with a proven design for the safe cryogenic storage of sperm, eggs, embryos or tissue samples.

These Nunc centrifuge and cryopreservation tubes are CE marked as medical devices for IVF. These products are not available for sale in the USA. For further information on the complete range of Nunc IVF consumables, please visit Company article page link top right of this page.

Refrigerators Freezers and CryogenicsRefrigerators, Freezers & Cryogenics can be used for preservation or experimental purposes. Types of freezers include deep freeze, -80C°C, ultra-low temperature, explosion proof, cryogenic and controlled rate freezers. Freezing is also used in freeze-drying equipment for dehydration processes. Feature to consider in freezers include temperature control and recorders, failure alarms and self-closing mechanisms.CentrifugesCentrifuges are used to separate particulates suspended in a liquid via the application of a centrifugal force including cells, macromolecules, nanoparticles and precipitates. Centrifuges come in three sizes: microcentrifuges, benchtop and floor-standing centrifuges, depending on the volume and number of samples that require separation. When choosing a centrifuge, consider its maximum separation power indicated by its relative centrifugal force (RCF) value. Low force centrifuges reach a maximum RCF of 8,000 g, high-force centrifuges can reach maximum RCF values of 80,000 g. For extremely high forces, consider ultracentrifuges (up to 800,000 g). Refrigerated and vacuum centrifuges also known as concentrators are available for more specialized applications. A range of volumes are available for centrifuge tubes and microfuge tubes, depending on sample sizes. This can reveal information on cell health (apoptosis, cytotoxicity, viability and proliferation assays), cell metabolism, cell migration and cell signaling mechanisms. POCT includes: blood glucose testing, blood gas and electrolytes analysis, rapid coagulation testing (PT / INR), rapid cardiac markers diagnostics, drugs of abuse screening, urine strips testing, pregnancy testing, fecal occult blood analysis, food pathogens screening, hemoglobin diagnostics, infectious disease testing and cholesterol screening.
