Thermo Fisher Scientific Displays New Laboratory Product Innovations at ASM 2014

A range of technology innovations that enable scientists to work smarter – increasing productivity, efficiency and safety – in clinical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and life science research settings will be showcased this week during the 114th General Meeting of the American Society Microbiology (Thermo Scientific Booth #725, Life Technologies Booth #409), Boston Convention Center, May 18-20, 2014.

At ASM, Thermo Fisher will feature a range of solutions for sample separation, preparation & analysis, including:
• Designed to optimize use and safety in a compact footprint, the New Thermo Scientific Refrigerated Small Benchtop Centrifuge delivers flexibility to run a wide range of applications and adapt to evolving research or clinical needs in life science research and clinical diagnosis processing;
• New Thermo Scientific E1-ClipTip electronic pipette allows users to transfer multiple samples between different labware formats using one pipette;
• New Thermo Scientific MyPipette Skins add personalization, color and style to any Thermo Scientific F1-ClipTip or Finnpipette F1 manual pipetting system;
• Life Technologies Ion Chef System, which automates sample preparation for next generation sequencing (NGS) experiments and reduces hands-on time to 15 minutes; and
• Also on display will be recently introduced laboratory solutions including Thermo Scientific general purpose centrifuges, customized Thermo Scientific KingFisher Pure Kits for high-yield DNA and RNA purification and the Life Technologies Ion Personal Genome Machine (PGM) System, the benchtop next-generation sequencing (NGS) instrument that enables long, accurate reads of microbial DNA.

Thermo Fisher will also host a talk, Microbial Identification Using 16s rRNA Sequence from the Ion Torrent PGM, by George S. Watts, Ph.D., co-director of the Arizona Cancer Center, who will provide an overview of 16s rRNA sequencing on the Ion PGM, on Tuesday, May 20th from 12-12:45 pm in the Exhibit Hall (booth #1438).
